Moon at dusk, pink clouds
Lens: Sears 80-200 Camera: K-x Photo Location: Louisiana ISO: 200
Posted By: Paleo Pete, 08-26-2010, 04:59 PM

Taken a few days ago just before dark, moon out and some clouds going by, lit up by the setting sun.

I;ve been trying to get some good moon shots, finally got a few late night shots but they tend to be same as every other boring moon shot, so they probably won't be posted. I had to push the contrast a bit for this one, and bring up the red a tad to get it to come out about like it really looked. Couldn't get the really pink tint I wanted, but this is close.

Great texture in the clouds! Looks almost as if you were standing on Mars!

Thanks Adam, like I said, not as good as I wanted, but still a keeper...I tried about 30 shots, 50mm, kit lens and 80-200, this one was closest to what I was trying for. I like the texture too.

Really nice lightning on the first one.

That lens should be really bright, considering the EXIF of the second one (ISO 200, 1/125).

I love that first moon shot, Pete. The clouds really make the picture. The second moon photo is very good, too, nice and sharp. You did a great job getting the exposure right.

Thanks a lot guys...and gals...

Tamia - I was more interested in getting the clouds than the moon, I knew they would make the shot, if I could get a good one. Getting the color to come out was the hardest part, I got a dozen nice shots but the clouds had very little color, making them look drab. Wish I could remember what I did to get this one to come out better...I tried every lens I have, even the kit lens, finally ended up back with the Sears. Oh yeah, that was hand held too.

hcarvalhoalves - That's my "new" Sears 80-200, and it's doing a really nice job. I've gotten several very nice shots with it, quite good for a 30 year old used lens. I think I was shooting at around f8 on that one, it surprised me how much I had to adjust both shutter speed and aperture compared to what the camera thought they should be. All that got me was a big white blob.

Nice shot with the clouds. Plain moon shots don't interest me.

Thanks SpecialK, I'm not too crazy about plain moon shots either but I still try them now and then. When I get a good one I like it, but I much prefer the ones like the cloud shot. Lots better...
