Opal Creek

Opal Creek has some of Oregon's oldest trees and clearest water. The area was mined for copper, zinc, and a bit of silver and gold. Now it is proteced and visited by many.

Wow, what minerals! I especially like the colors in the second photo- fantastic! Almost looks like camo colors.

Yes, the rocks at Opal Creek are great. Like most of western Oregon, they are basalt and andesite, but instead of just the usual black and gray, there are light buff and green as well. I needed to check back and forth between the scene and my LCD to convince me that the colors were close to reality.

The sky was light overcast. I used the cloudy color temp. preset and cooled the color a bit in post production.

Yep, the Sigma 24mm is a good one. Tiny and inexpensive as well.

The junks - I think the middle one is 1920's vintage - are from a defunct mining camp that is just a few hundred yards from Opal Pool. Now there is a non-profit run rustic resort at the site with cabins to rent and various educational programs running throughout the snow-free season.

Thanks, Steve. I believe you are correct - a Willys. My grandfather had one.
