Bigma and the Moon
Posted By: Mr Hyde, 08-28-2007, 08:00 PM

With all the talk of the eclipse I went out last night with the Bigma and shot some non eclipse photos of the moon. this one was tweaked with some brightness/contrast adjustment and an unsharp mask. (100% crop then reduced to 800 pixels wide for the forum)

K10D, Sigma 50-500mm at 500mm f/11, 1/500th sec, ISO-200

f/11 .... & 1/500th ...? WOW! Handheld or Tripod?

Man I need a tripod ... my long lens (also a Sigma) and 2x TC should do nice.

Though, I do think this alternative picture of the moon should be checked out by everyone.
1) click this : Google Moon
2) use the slider in the upper left and zoom in all the way (very important)

Eclipse

I have to say, thats very well done. Makes mine look a little ordinary.
What a difference that lens seems to make. I've just got to get myself a Bigma. Been the wish list for some time.
Very well done!!

I had the camera locked down on the tripod using the remote and 3 second timer. I didnt want to touch the camera and induce any shake at all. I must have took about 30 photos. Its amazing how much the moon moves across the sky. I had to keep resetting the tripod to keep it mostly centered in the viewfinder.

As far as the exposure goes it was all trial and error. I just put the camrea in manual and kept making incremental adjustments. My first few shots were nothing but a bright white circle on a black background.

Very nice pic with great detail. I tried out the multi exposure mode on the k10d with a 300mm f* lens and a 2x-s tc. shot at f16 1/350 using 15 minute shot increments

I was annoyed I didn't have my tripod to catch the eclipse down here this week. Bigma with 1.4TC would have been a good test I reckon.

For those in the USA there is hope of being able to rent one (someday) as cameralensrentals.com has begun renting out Pentax lenses via the mail!!!

Pentaxforums thread: https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/pentax-slr-lens-discussion/24688-finally-...-s-lenses.html
https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/pentax-slr-lens-discussion/24688-finally-you-don-t-have-pro-try-out-pentax-s-lenses.html[/url]

While so far for the Pentax mount they only carry Pentax brand lenses, the owner is a member of pentaxforums and seems to follow the thread listed.

He's also put out a request for folks to say what lenses they'd like to be able to rent... and the Sigma (Bigma) 50-500mm has been brought up for consideration twice. Once by me.

So if anyone thinks they'd ever rent a Sigma Bigma, please go over and post it.

And if you'd like them to consider carrying either of the 70-200/2.8s, you should tell them that too.

The thread also has the suggestion of a Canadian company to email to, in the hopes that they too will start carrying Pentax mount lenses also.

Thanks!

When I originally posted this thread and photo I uploaded it here to the forum. Once the thread kinda fell off the radar so to speek I deleted the uploaded image.

Here is a shot I took of the moon with my Bigma. I'm not sure if it's the same one I had posted but its a moon shot
