There are a few points I can make specifically regarding this image:
1. Subject matter: What interests you in this scene - and what would interest your viewers about this scene (personally I have little interest in birds' back sides. )
2. Framing: a crucial part of a photo that had not been addressed here, even with a decent crop. Choose your orientation and cropping to highlight the subject matter in your image. What's with the concrete slab included in the frame? How does it add meaning or value to the image? (ask yourself this)
3. Lighting: not bad, but distracting due to the reflection of light off the water - would have been better to shoot with a polarising filter under these circumstances.
4. Symmetry: working with patterns or repeated subject matter, it is important that the composition of the image follows some sort of recognisable shape/form or symmetry since we humans are pleased with order and meaningful patterns - although impossible to do yourself, a better more regular arrangement would improve interest.
5. Creativity in PP: little effort, it seems, was put into post-processing of significance - this goes a long way in transforming good photos to excellent ones.

Hope this helps.

It's great you could capture those ducks/geese tipping up all at once like that, and I like how they are in a shallowly arched line with all of them backside-to.

The photo is a bit busy because of the wavelets and high contrast. If you could crop out some of the side and bottom, with the birds as a larger proportion of the photo, I think it would be improved.

Ah, Ash posted his a nano-second before I posted mine. Great tips, Ash. For myself, I don't mind waterfowl backsides , and like the formation of this mixed flock, which I find unusual. I would like to see them more closely, though.

I would crop tighter because the birds are pretty small. Other than that, it's fine - even the concrete which breaks up the monotony of the water.
