Just picked up a set of M42 extension tubes. Fun!

Nice work in the fourth shot! Great lighting, and the sharpness also ended up being quite good.

Why those black edges everywhere, though?

I have no idea where the black edges are coming from. I'm saving in DNG format, and using UFRaw and Gimp to develop and rescale.
