Four photos, Big Bend area, Texas
Posted By: WPRESTO, 09-14-2010, 01:38 PM

Here are four pictures from Big Bend park or nearby in Texas. All are taken with a K10D and DA 16-45

1) FAKE VILLAGE: Although this looks plausible, it's actually an abandoned set used for just one movie. The buildings are cheap pressboard overlaid by chicken wire to hold the "adobe." Some of them - out of view here - are already crumbling. 1?180 @ f8, ISO 100, 34mm.

2) ) BOATERS ON RIO GRANDE: The river goes into a very narrow canyon just ahead of these boaters. Some places we visited along the river you could almost jump across, but reaches were bordered by spectacular vertical cliffs with no access to the water except by repelling down a rope. 1/250 @ f6.7, ISO 100, 16mm.

3) OCOTILLO BLOSSOM: I should have used a smaller f-stop here, as the tip goes out of focus. My excuse: there was wind. 1/250 @ f6.7, ISO 100, 45mm.

4) AGAVE: I don't the precise identity of this plant, although it is not the species commonly called Spanish Sword. 1/8 @ f13, ISO 100, 45mm.

I like all those nice sharp images. The aperture on the blossom looks fine to me as I wouldn't want to sharpen the background anymore. The river pic is some how sureal looking to me.

Nice photo's
I enjoyed the time I spent camping there in the '80's, it is a very peaceful place. I remember it was a long way to get groceries. Sad old Clay Henry died, I hear his offspring can't hold their beer like the old man.
