Autumn Color
Posted By: Nightwatch, 12-01-2006, 07:55 PM

Here are a few images I took yesterday of some local Autumn Color. The day was somewhat cloudy, and I played with the post processing settings to bring some of the saturation and contrast out in the images. I like the look, what say you?

Gold looks OK, the others look oversaturated. Once that happens especially with red/magenta you lose a lot of detail. Try cutting back on the saturation a bit and see if they come across better.

I have to agree with Clarence on this one Nightwatch, the saturation seems a little high. the first one I like and the over saturation does work well. Your last shot is to over saturated and you have lost the detail of the focus. cut it back a little here and the shot would really make it.

Good Shooting.

Thanks for the comments! I was actually going for an over saturated look, trying something different. The last 2 days have been rather cloudy and drab, and I was going for a more vivid look, something to contrast the weather. Though I have never shot with it, I was inspired to try the look, after seeing images captured with Velvia film. I kept the original processed Jpgs as real to life as possible, as that's how I normally try to shoot.

I tend to like the oversaturated look too. The first two look striking!

I think when changing colour etc it needs to be obvious you have or else people think you've done it wrong! I really like no.2, quite abstract yet everyday.

I know where you are going here, but I've got to agree with the others. The Reds/Magentas are touch to over saturated. The 1st is beginning to look like blown highlights. If you back off the saturation just a touch, it might be better.

The shots with the golds/yellows look fine.

Just my 2 cents. YMMV.
