Posted By: ismaelg, 09-21-2010, 07:57 PM

Hi,

Further testing of my "new" SEIMAR m42 500mm f8 lens. I will eventually write a full review.

1/20s @ f11
tripod mounted, 2 second delay, mirror lock up, wired remote

No crop:

100% crop

This concludes this test. You may now return to your K5 comic threads, already in progress.

Thanks,

Great details, specially on the crop. It's no different than looking from the telescope I have at home.

Try it on a day when the moon is way up on the sky, this way you avoid the "smearing" the thick atmosphere causes and you might get an even sharper pic.

500m - nice! I would love to have a prime with that range.

Hi Ismael, that len's is sharp, did a double take on your crop. I've tried with my 400
and used 2 second delay without remote, seems like 2 sec's. isnt long enough for
everything to settle down,at those long focal lengths
think I'll use my remote too and see what happens. You have some great results there
regards,
Bill

Thanks!
Yes, I'm very happy with the lens. Especially for the price. I thought it was more of a novelty than a usable lens but it definitely has potential. I'll post a more detailed review later in the database and in the lens forum.
The remote is a must. Pressing the shutter button will cause it to wobble even in a sturdy tripod and the 2 seconds will not be enough to settle. Without a remote, the 12 second delay may be better but it does not provide mirror lock up.

Thanks for the comments!

You inspired me to try one today. Shorter though, I only got a 300m and no TC
