Time trials today....today I realised the limits of the K-7 AF.

More photos here : larger sizes and EXIF data.

Another well done update. I really like #3 and #9 -- the arrow pointing to the cyclist in #3 is serendipitous, and the shadows and angle in #9 make it dynamic. You did well capturing the expressions in the close-ups. Nice job.

Thanks for that, yer I love #3 because its just a non-typical sports shot, I just wanted one with everything sharp and one blur, maybe blurred a bit too much but still happy with it.

And yes no.9 was great to just staight out of the camera I loved it, I tweaked the shadows and curves in ACR to get it more dyanmic.

GX-10 with Tamron 70-200 is not the speed demon. Try to get a good shooting spot is also challenging. Most of the time, I need to bend over fully extended to get a clear shot.

Lots of good shots there, Christopher, and well done liam.

I'm jealous! I had to work over the weekend and wasn't able to get to Geelong. One way to overcome the limitations of AF is to park yourself near the top of a climb. The bikes are going much slower.

Richard.

Shot from the final day, I was too busy this day been social.

My friend got this EPIC shot with his 5D Mk2 & Canon L 70-200. I've read that the 5D Mk2 has AF problems, but look at this

You gotta show the faces

Pity the winner shot of Thor Hushovd has focus issues, it's great otherwise.

The sunglasses really ruin many otherwise great bike racing shots. This characterful moroccan rider gets by without them and that makes the shot excellent. Great pain and exertion there.

The best bike racing shots show emotionful faces. My best racing shots are from crouching low onto the sidewalk and shooting up, using fill flash. Spectators can't do that on a Worlds course because the entire length is fenced off.

And now it's over. Until next year.
Regards,
--Anders.

I used AF-C for about 95% of my shots, providing I kept it all centered I got mostly keepers, but as I said this race really showed me the limitations of the Pentax AF & SDM. I found screw driven lenses were definitely better after using a K-7 with an old Sigma 70-200 EX with the screw drive, was just more responsive. But after handling a Canon 1D with 70-200 that was a revelation, not that it was all that much faster (in fact not as fast as I expected) but it was far more decisive than the K-7.

All shot with the DA14mm. Used the old fashioned method of focusing...

Oh, recognising you was easy, what with self portraits in your flickr stream, the vague smell of KFC wafting off your person...

I do have a habit of remembering faces that was useful for work, so that might have helped!
