What a place! I would take more sky off the top, even at the expense of losing that bit of blue. The major visual interest is low, not high, but the sky takes up a full half of the image. Set the distant horizon line above center to emphasize the foreground more.

Amazing place....did you take the drive down through it?
I want to do that at Sunrise and sunset one day...
Well captured and I too agree with comments on the cropping.

Thanks wpresto for your advice, I'll try to crop the picture; when I took the shot I planned to keep a lot fo sky because of the clouds, but probably it was an error.

@ Malle Boy: Yes, I drove through the off-road circuit in the Valley, it was really amazing.
I had a Chevrolet HHR 2.4L, I think the vehicle had not enough clearance, but in fact there where also a lot of Mustang with me....and also the HHR was rented car...
I had some problems with the automatic 4 speed gearbox (I Italy I only drive car with manual gearbox) but the trip through the Monument was beautiful.
I was worried about the clouds and the rain, but thanks to them I took nice shots with my Pentax...

Hope my advice on the crop is useful. Experimenting with the screen myself, I liked the image with the horizon about 1/4 down from the top. By the way, the two formations to the left are called "the mittens."
AND hope you enjoyed your honeymoon in the southwest. Very different from any place in Europe.

You mean I can simply crop that photo?
In that way?

By the way, I seem to remember that the right one is the Merrick Butte, isn't it?
I remember that every rock in Monument Valley has its own name.

I enjoyed a lot in my honeymoon, the South West it's fantastic, and realyy there is nothing similar in Europe.
I also liked driving through your very large roads...

I'd like to post any other picture taken during my vacation.

Nice shot! I agree on the cop. Looks pretty good before the crop, really good after the crop!

weneto: That's pretty close to the crop I had in mind, although I took off a bit more of the sky. It's much easier to eliminate parts of an image that is NOT your own picture. AND, I think this crop really brings out that beautiful rusty-red foreground. I'm not sure about the names of the individual buttes, only the name given to the pair, which might not be "official" but it is the name used by some members of the local camera club who have been there.

Slightly better, now?

In fact, that is the version I prefer...

You pointed out exactly my existential problem

At the Visitor's Centre you could pick up the map of the Valley, and you could see that they named every rock and every point of view.
I don't know if they are the old Navajo names or the new ones...

I'll post soon other picture in order to catch your advices....
