Orkney Island
Lens: Zuiko Digital 12-60/f2.8-4, Zuiko Digital 50-200/f2.8-3.5 SWD Camera: Olympus E-3 Photo Location: Orkney Island, UK

Over the last weekend I got to spend a few days wandering around Orkney Island, one of the largest islands to the north of Scotland. We spent most of the time around the two bigger towns; Kirkwall and Stromness. Generally speaking it was a great trip; beautiful place, nice people and very relaxed.

All shots with the Oly E-3 and ZD 12-60 SWD and ZD 50-200 SWD. (sorry about the overload of pics, it's a photogenic place... )

Stromness Harbour

...and again

Stromness. All the houses here had pot-plants outside their doors and windows, it was really cute

Keep Clear. Kirkwall.

St Magnus Cathedral, Kirkwall. This is a gorgeous sandstone building that was originally erected in 1137. This was definitely the find of the trip and certainly not what you expect to find on an island of only 20,000 people! Here's another shot of the vaulting.

Angels, Stromness.

Thanks guys :-)

The cathedral was stunning! There was some especially stunning details in the sandstone, as the high-salt content in the air had eroded all sorts of odd shapes into the original reliefs.

What a fantastic series - I love it. It's eclectic - yet each shot belongs with the others somehow. I'm very impressed.
