Acadia National Park, Maine (lotta pics)
Posted By: MRRiley, 10-14-2010, 06:49 AM

Here is the first batch of shots from our trip to Maine. These are all within or adjacent to Acadia National Park on Mount Desert Island or the Schoodic Peninsula.

Breaking Surf at Thunder Hole - DA*16-50mm

Thunder Hole Dike 1 - DA*16-50mm

Thunder Hole Dike 2 - DA*16-50mm

Thunder Hole Waves Receding - DA*16-50mm

Mossy Birch - DA*60-250mm

Birch Bark Curl - DA*60-250mm

Sand Beach 1 - DA*16-50mm

Sand Beach 2 - DA*16-50mm

Otter Cliffs Surf - DA*60-250mm

Dawn at Otter Cliffs - DA*16-50mm

Otter Point Under Assault 1 - DA*60-250mm

Otter Point Under Assault 2 - DA*60-250mm

Otter Point Breakers - DA*60-250mm

Pebbles Awash at Little Hunter Beach - DA*16-50mm

Bass Harbor Head Light - DA*16-50mm (Obligatory Maine Lighthouse photo... LOL)

Collier House Pond Reflection (I could not resist flipping this shot upside down) - DA*16-50mm

Collier House Pond Reeds - DA*60-250mm

Rebuffed Wave at Schoodic Point (wave is washing back out from the bottleneck) - using Mel's DA10-17mm fisheye

Schoodic Point Wave 1 - another using Mel's fisheye

Schoodic Point Wave 2 - another using Mel's fisheye

Line of Reeds - DA*60-250mm

Reeds - DA*60-250mm

The light was often brutal and I used a mix of Cokin graduated ND filters on some of the long exposure shots but even then I was forced to shoot at f22 much of the time. I really need to get a Vari-ND filter for the DA*16-50mm ($$$).

Oh just lovely Mike. Brings back fond memories of my time up there. I want to go back. I love the black and white beach one, the upside down one, and the 3rd one with my fisheye. I'm glad you got some good use out of it. Excellent excellent. I'm glad you and Rosalie had a nice trip.
Thanks Mel! It was a very nice break. I really do appreciate the loan of the fisheye. it was critical to some of the photos.

Super shots, Mike! My wife and I spent her spring break in Bar Habor about 6 years ago, and we have definite plans on returning there. Was one of the most beautiful places we have visited.
Thanks Tom! It certainly is a beautiful place And I'm sure we barely scratched the surface in 4 days...

Another stunning series. The reflection photo with the lily pads was incredible. I really enjoyed!

Thanks John! Glad you liked the reflection shot. It was a nice enough shot rightside up but it just screamed to be presented upside down. Nice to have so many folks endorse my instinct!

WOW! What a wonderful series of photos. I can't pick out a favorite, but I do find myself returning to the Sand Beach photos as well as the Line of Reeds. Very enjoyable set from a spectacular part of the country.

Thanks Tamia! Sand Beach was sort of a surprise and I was thrilled when I found those rocks to use as a focal point.

Nice set Mike. I love the Schoodic shots. That's 30 minutes from my home. I shoot there often. The waves looked especially good when you were there.

Thank you! It is a beautiful area and I really envy you living so close. I'd love to be able to shoot there in more lighting conditions.

Another wonderful series Mike and there are too many to pick any favourites but that "obligatory" Maine Lighthouse stands out.

Thanks Heinrich! I wanted to shoot the lighthouse much later around sunset, but the rocks were tricky enough during the day that I didn't want to risk them in the dark. LOL
