Acadia National Park, Maine (lotta pics)
Lens: various Camera: K20D Photo Location: Acadia National Park, ME
Posted By: MRRiley, 10-14-2010, 06:49 AM

Here is the first batch of shots from our trip to Maine. These are all within or adjacent to Acadia National Park on Mount Desert Island or the Schoodic Peninsula.

Breaking Surf at Thunder Hole - DA*16-50mm

Thunder Hole Dike 1 - DA*16-50mm

Thunder Hole Dike 2 - DA*16-50mm

Thunder Hole Waves Receding - DA*16-50mm

Mossy Birch - DA*60-250mm

Birch Bark Curl - DA*60-250mm

Sand Beach 1 - DA*16-50mm

Sand Beach 2 - DA*16-50mm

Otter Cliffs Surf - DA*60-250mm

Dawn at Otter Cliffs - DA*16-50mm

Otter Point Under Assault 1 - DA*60-250mm

Otter Point Under Assault 2 - DA*60-250mm

Otter Point Breakers - DA*60-250mm

Pebbles Awash at Little Hunter Beach - DA*16-50mm

Bass Harbor Head Light - DA*16-50mm (Obligatory Maine Lighthouse photo... LOL)

Collier House Pond Reflection (I could not resist flipping this shot upside down) - DA*16-50mm

Collier House Pond Reeds - DA*60-250mm

Rebuffed Wave at Schoodic Point (wave is washing back out from the bottleneck) - using Mel's DA10-17mm fisheye

Schoodic Point Wave 1 - another using Mel's fisheye

Schoodic Point Wave 2 - another using Mel's fisheye

Line of Reeds - DA*60-250mm

Reeds - DA*60-250mm

The light was often brutal and I used a mix of Cokin graduated ND filters on some of the long exposure shots but even then I was forced to shoot at f22 much of the time. I really need to get a Vari-ND filter for the DA*16-50mm ($$$).

Very nice photography, Mike - the subtle color shifts of the surf, the just-right shutter speed, and several of your abstractions are spot on! Makes me home sick, I lived in Seal Harbor for a while in the late 70s.

superb series mike ... i can almost hear the deafening crash of the waves from here... the 3rd fisheye shot really exemplifies that......the reflection composition is a great 'take' on fall foliage... dave m

Thanks Jussi. It is such a beautiful island. I wish we'd had more time. We went right thru Seal Harbor on our drive back to our B&B from Bass Harbor.

Thanks Dave. The surf is spectacular and Schoodic Point is probably the best part of the whole park. And thanks for the comment on the inverted shot. It just kinda worked that way.

Mike - lot's of very good stuff here. I'm particularly impressed with the first B&W beach shot, the lighthouse and the reeds. Very cool, my friend.

Several very successful images here. I especially like the second fish eye (Schoodic Point Wave 2). It's a very good application of the 180 degree image.

Thanks! It was the perfect lens for that shot. I just wonder if Mel is going to kill me when she realizes how close I was to those breakers... LOL

Oh just lovely Mike. Brings back fond memories of my time up there. I want to go back. I love the black and white beach one, the upside down one, and the 3rd one with my fisheye. I'm glad you got some good use out of it. Excellent excellent. I'm glad you and Rosalie had a nice trip.

Super shots, Mike! My wife and I spent her spring break in Bar Habor about 6 years ago, and we have definite plans on returning there. Was one of the most beautiful places we have visited.
