My wife and kid
Lens: 16-45 & AF540
Posted By: the swede, 10-18-2010, 11:28 AM

These were taken on the fly a day, and afterwards i was a litle dissapointed because i wanted it to look better in a hundred different ways (posing, clothes, mood, lighting) but i had to calm down and realise that they ARE good enough for my preferences.

My wife said that "This moment will never come again, just be happy with them". Im glad she did, because now i love these photos. I hope you like them to!

I have them in both color and B/W. I would love to hear your thoughts on B/W post processing, because i just cant get my head into the ways of B/W.

Cute and I think the BW is perfect for a baby shot. For anything but a baby I would have preferred a bit more mid-tone contrast.

Mikael, these are 2 wonderful images of your family. I love the B/W, not just for the B/W but for the facial expressions as well.

Those are absolutely adorable! The B&W conversion is pretty good, but as tcdk says I think it is lacking a little midtone contrast. What software are you using for the conversion?

I also like the B+W a lot, especially the expressions as Heinrich said. Congratulations for your photos and your very nice family!

Thanks! Im using Aperture 3.

I just used a B/W preset called "yellow filter", in the brick that comes up there are sliders for red, green and blue, default set to 34% 66% 0%.
I know i can go into ALL the adjustment bricks (levels, curves, exposure etc) and tweak the B/W outcome.

The thing is....i just dont know how to "think" in B/W terms

I find it much much harder to PP B/W than color. For example, how should skin tone look like in B/W???

I actually think the skin tones are pretty good. Not sure how you do it in Aperture, but a slight "levels" adjustment to darken the midtones just a bit should do the trick.

Your wife is a wise woman and you have captured the "moment" beautifully in the bw photo. Well done.

Color is nice, B/W is very good. I can not comment on mid-tones or anything else because we are not using a same monitor.
