Thanks everyone for the comments. As for distance to the subject in the first shot I would have been about 250 meters (750 feet+) from the utility tower. I am very pleased with the Bigma. Yeah it's a little heavy but many of my best shots are with that lens. If you are considering long glass (and given the lack of it from Pentax) then I would say this is one of the better ones to look for. One of the things that makes it great is the wide focal range. Go out in the woods with a wide to mid tele and this lens and that's all you may need. No complaints here.
The spray from the waves did hit the power lines and I assume they have some sort of water tight jacket on them or the salt would corrode them pretty fast. Dave the east coast cars don't last as long as the western province cars. Between the ocean and the winter road salt a car body is done in about 8-10 years or less. In Nova Scotia you are no more than 100kms from the sea no matter where you are and it is surprising how far inland the effects (temperature and so on) of the ocean are felt.
The surf in certain parts is pretty good here and there are 100's of kms of good beaches all around. But having been to California, I think the surf here is small. But then here, there are the hurricanes and storms....
Edit: BTW did anyone notice the 2 brave souls on motorbikes that were in the first shot? Have a look at the far left near the bird.
