Damn good stuff! I wish the people at our local venue knew how to do lighting correctly.

I think band/concert photography would make a great category.

If you are taking band shots too, I would love to see some. Lighting can be really hit and miss. I have had some really problematic conditions.

Calling the failure that is the lighting at MBP "Problematic conditions" would be far too kind.

I'll share some of my good captures:

I'll post more if you're interested.

Sure, absolutely. The second one looks like the ISO was cranked? The first turned out pretty awesome.

Lighting at this show was ATROCIOUS! The opener (Trust, in the B&W shot) had no front lighting at all and only one white rear spotlight. Entirely backlight. I basically relied on the flash of the crowd to provide a token amount of light and used that. And the venue was FILLED with a ridiculous amount of smoke, even worse.

The main act, Zola Jesus, had much better lighting (comparatively, though it was still terrible for pics) but still the smoke was still intense.

I had to crank ISO in that place, even with fast lenses.

Really getting to grips with the optimal settings for the camera and lens now. Out of the 1,000 shots I take for the night I have maybe 50% keepers now!

My first experience with LED lighting I think! Conversion to B&W seemed to clean up some of the more glaring problems... Or it appeared to... Some of my faves:

Atrocious lighting on this one. The final pictures ended up significantly changed from the original images out of the camera after I messed around with the exposure and white balance. Thank God I shot RAW!!
