Feedback, please?
Posted By: Tom Lusk, 09-14-2007, 04:57 PM

I spent a couple of hours chasing some green herons through a marsh. They are uncommon in this area, so I took as many shots as I could in case I don't get another chance.

I've weeded the (MANY!) shots down to eight, but I'd like to get some feedback as to which are better and why. I find that having too many shots of the same subject leaves me lost when trying to judge my own work...

Thanks!

Numbers 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, perhaps 8 are the best. No distracting backgound.

But they are all amazing!

One mans opinion ......

First off all are stunning indeed , I agree with Ole - although you only received a 50% score here ! hahahaha

#1 the is too much information everyhting in Focus
#2 while I love the shot , the frog looks cartoonish - almost photoshoped in
#3 is perfect
#4 is perfect
#5 I really like but again it is busy with the shadows and frogs in the pond
#6 is perfect
#7 is perfect
#8 I love but the backgroud blends in with the bird a bit and the bird does not stand out as much IMHO

Of the perfect ones I would have to say in order
#3,#7,#6 and #4

Looks like your chase was well worth it...

Keep them all!! These are amazing. I know you said you wanted to weed them out but I don't think you can. Each one has it's own value.

Thanks for sharing

Hi Tom,
these are all good, but for me 3 and 7 stand out.

Hi Tom, excellent work...and that is not just being polite.
No's 2, 3 & 6 are outstanding while the others are just plain 'ol good.

Number 3 imho, is the standout, the effect of the light is almost surreal.

Congratulations and thanks for posting.

The frog shot is the best in my opinion. I love the tension and the real worl feel from this shot.

Maybe you have increased the fill in light a bit with more black leveling to create this effect. Like the magic hour shooting though

As stunning as always

#2,3,4,5,7 are my favourits. #1 disappeares in the background. #8 I find the background a bit to much. But all these photos are great. I would be happy if I could take photos half as good as yours. You are amazing.

Cheers

I'm agreeing with daacon - 3, 7, 6, 4. Although the dance pose in #6 might make my vote 3, 6, 7, 4.

From a non-technical point of view and ONLY because YOU asked, Tom.

#1 just blends-in too much for MY liking.
The rest are excellent. #6 reminds me of a Sumo wrestler doing his "thing".
