Sumo Sized Sparrow

I was just about to take my dog out this morning when I noticed this fat little chipping sparrow foraging about in my front yard. I haven't seen one of these for months and considering where I live in Northern Manitoba I thought they were long gone for the winter, which started about a month ago here.

At first glance I thought that bird had more than its share of insects (high in fat) to prepare for winter but then I saw the SNOW! OMG, it was 87 degrees here a day ago, an all time record but still, far from snow. Now I think it just fluffed it feathers for that Northern Manitoba Autumn.

Thanks for the comments guys. I live in a small rural community in Northern Manitoba and winter starts here around the first of October and goes until mid May. We don't get a lot of snow here, maybe a foot or a bit more, but we do get frigid frigid cold. We've had windchills this week around -15C and last winter we had temps in the -50C's so I'm sure this little guy has bulked up for the cold winter ahead.
