A bit of Birding..

Got out for an hour the other day. It was pretty hot, and the sun light was a little harsh, but managed to get a few shots I liked of a Heron, and a Kite or Hawk. Thanks for looking....all comments welcome

I love your second the best - the take-off of heron was freezed in the instant with splash of water revealing the moment.

The eagle shot was great too. Where did you go to have the sighting of the eagle? I would love to pay it a visit too

I wish I had the patience to do this stuff. Those are wonderful! I agree with the others that #2 is super, but #4 also grabs my eye. Even though the face is in shadow, the eye's quite visible. Did that take much pp? I wouldn't want to be a rodent and have it looking at me like that!

James, About 5 min from my house is a reserve where there are a few hawks that nest in the area.

Clarence..all shots handheld..SR for the first two shots, but not with the others.

Julie.. not much PP on the first two, a little bit of levels an USM.
The hawks needed a bit more work, and also with shadows/highlights.

These are pretty cool. I like the back lighting on the raptor. (Sorry, I'm neither a birder nor aspiring to be one.)

The specular highlights (especially in the second shot) are interesting - they look like the shape our human eyes make such things.

You did a great job with the composition, colors and sharpness in the first 2.

It must have been hard to get the birds with a 400mm

I can barely get a good moon shot with mine, lol.

What is the name of the reserve? I would like to wait for eagles down there this weekend.

Bush fire everywhere in victoria at present - I better find places that are safer to visit.

Those do look spectacular, Scott. The first one somehow is my favourite - like the "richness" of the picture for loss of other words - but I also like the "white" in flight ones. Exceptional clarity!

I have decided I live in the wrong place. With all the natural beauty that is Canada, I live in AutoTown. Oh well!

Nice job, Oooops Great job Scott. I do like the first one for the natural stance of the bird but I personally find the sun's reflection on the background water distracting.
