On Saturday my wife, daughter and granddaughter attended the Festival of Lights, a local carnival that annually "officially" begins the holiday season the weekend before Thanksgiving. The affairs contains the usual: local talent show, crafts, civic organization displays, Texas food stalls, pony ride, petting zoo, giant inflated attractions, and - of course - a midway. Here are some shots I grabbed during the afternoon.
For this outing, I dragged out my DA 18-250, a lens I've seldom used since teaming my old DA 16-45 with a 55-300. However, I still find the 18-250 to be ideal for carnivals and such where photography is a secondary (or tertiary) objective and frequent lens changes are irksome (especially to my companions). Typically with this lens, in bright sun, I set the shutter speed to 1/500 in Tv mode in order minimize shake at all focal lengths and fix the iso at 400, allowing the lens to stop down to maximize its optical quality. Then I just shoot with abandon.
