V8 Race series, Ruapuna Raceway NZ
Lens: Sigma 135-400mm Camera: K20D Photo Location: Ruapuna, New Zealand ISO: 200 Shutter Speed: 1/500s

Hey guys, took the Sigma 135-400 out for a race track event. I'm pretty new to motorsport photography (as in I read a guide on taking motorsport shots the night before ) I tried lowish shutter speeds to get the wheel motion, and got an ok hit rate - fair few blurry shots but plenty of keepers too. It might not have the focus speed of the K7 or K5 but the trusty K20D seemed to hold up most of the time for panning

Anyhow here is a selection, it was primary a v8's event (Ford vs Holden - its a NZ/Australia thing ) But also included several other classes like the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge which I actually prefer

I found that I could've done with a bit shorter than 135mm up close to help frame things better, but live and learn!

GT3 Cup guys:

And Formula Fords etc

Cheers

Wow!! - a wonderful series. I think the shot of Harrison (5) and Whyman (18) side-by-side is truly outstanding.

Looks like a good lens.
The picture of the GT3 Cup "guy" has potential!

You seem to have plenty sharp enough. Once you get used the the lens and panning with it, I'd try a slightly slower shutter even, get a bit more background blur etc., especially for the distant shots.
