The road goes ever on

I like the first better. I'd even be tempted to take out more of the sky and some off the left, putting the convergence point of the road more towards the upper left of the shot.

It depends on where the picture is going. If you work for lets say the highway department then #1.

If its a back ground for lets say a church songs then #2.

#1 Your eyes stay on the road, mountains etc.
#2 moves your eyes upward

I'm with Kingaircj. If your emphasis is the road - which your title implies - then #1 keeps you focused on the road. If your emphasis is the wide open space, then #2 definately works better for that.

If I didn't know what you were trying to "show" - based purely on the photos - I like #2 better.

Thanks for the feedback folks! The straight section of road was meant to be the focus, but there happened to be a really nice sky as well! I've cropped part of the foreground because unfortunately, red reflectors on the road were IMO much too distracting.
