Morning Glories - Classy and Classic Ladies
Lens: DA 16-45 Camera: K20D Photo Location: Kemah, TX
Posted By: Sailor, 12-04-2010, 04:43 PM

We spent last night aboard our boat and I was up (fairly) early this morning with my camera to catch some subjects illuminated by the low, winter sun. A theme developed in that I was shooting some classic cruising sailboats produced by high-end builders over the last several decades. Here are four pics.

Jer

A beautifully restored Bristol 27 manufactured in the '60's (and perhaps the '70's in RI) - this gal is gorgeous under sail:

Detail of an Island Packet 32 produced in the '90's; Island Packet manurfactures high-end, "production" cruising sailboats and appears to be going strong today:

Well maybe she ain't a beauty, but the Morgan Out Island 41, a mid cockpit design, was produced from the early '70's into the '80's:

A very sweet example of a Pacific Seacraft Orion (27) manufactured in the '80's; like Island Packet, Pacific Seacraft is still building exquisite (and breathtakingly expensive) sail and power boats:

There are days when it just hurts to see photo's like this my friend. Very cool here today. Your images are always so sharp Jer. Love them all but the third is a stand out. JIM

Somehow I did not expect to sea real ladies,
seeing this post came from you

Nice ones, looks like summer (and that's a thing
that is far away here, now...)

Hey, Rense - this is the best I can do. I don't think real ladies would pose for me!

Hey, buddy, I thought of you when I pushed the shutter button. I don't know the temp when I shot these, but I was wearing a T-shirt and shorts. It's chilly today, however. It only made it up to 57F (but sunny). It pains me to say it . . . . . but mid '70's are forcast for Saturday (before the next "cold" front).

The second shot gave me first the feeling of simplicity and then on reflection of my sailing knowledge, gave me the feeling of complexity. Nice series of shots, we will have to visit the TX coast, we usually spend time in San Antonio or Austin areas when we travel through. When we were in Pasadena it was all commercial at the ocean, nothing like you show. thanks Bob
