Northern Lights

One of the best shots I was lucky enough to get earlier this year. I don't know why but the lights seem to be stronger in late summer than they are all winter which is when you would expect them to be the strongest. This was actually taken Aug. 8 at around 11pm.

If someone with mad photoshop skills wants to edit that poll out feel free. I've tried and just can't get it too look right.

Wish I could help you with the pole. I'm not skilled enough either.

However, what a beautiful Photo. The Aurora is something I've never seen. Hope to some day.

This is beautiful. The Big Dipper adds much to the view. Someone with practice in using the clone tool would probably remove the pole to make it look natural.

Luckily living in the north we are privileged enough to have the ability to see the Northern Lights any night through out the year and every time they're out nice and bright it still amazes me. Just last week I caught them for a few minutes and I still found myself truly amazed.

Actually, I don't. It took all of 2 seconds in CS5. It has a spot healing brush that does this kind of thing really easy and anyone can do it. I just dragged it the length of the poll and it did it automagically. It worked well in this shot because there is no fine detail to be preserved or added.
