Two Feet Plus... (8 Pix)
Lens: DA 18-55mm II Camera: K200D Photo Location: Northern NY ISO: 200

Two feet or more of snow on the ground, that is. I'm intrigued by its texture. As anyone who has lived in snow country knows, it takes on many characters depending on temperature and other factors. The newly-fallen snow that has grown over the last few days looks coarse when undisturbed, but it's fluffy, soft and light when you wade through it. Like feathers, almost. I've been striving to capture the character of this snow. Not sure I succeeded, but here are shots I took today when it was still falling, even while the sun tried to pierce through at times. Technical details: EXIF is intact. I used EV +0.5 on up to +1.5. Adjusted WB, curves, contrast, colors & saturation, and levels to try and bring out the texture.

Cedars Bent by Snow

Shining Through -- or Trying To

Scoured By Wind

In the Deep (Though It's Hard to Tell)

Pristine in the Park

Windblown

It was in the low-20s, Jim. We're in the foothills of the NW Adirondacks, in lake effect snow country.

Nice shots. I'm there with you. Unfortunately, have been working from 7 this morning until now (8:30 pm). BUT... off in half an hour! I'll have to see if I can get some night snow shots! :-)

Thanks Mark. I wanted to try some night shots but was too tired from shoveling. Looking forward to seeing your snow pix.

Nice shots. like the falling snow flakes in the second shot. feeling the effects of the lake ontario snow machine myself this week, though only in bursts of 3-6 inches of snow a day.

4 ft and counting

Still working too much this time of year to go get any good shots, but here are a couple from where I work. May get another 6 inches or so today. Ho-ho-ho

Thanks very much Daniel, Doctor, Scott, and Jer. Mark, now your photos are REALLY snowy, and it's nice to see evidence that the sun does still shine on NY -- at least sometimes .

Nice snow pics Tamia! Lovely. We had snow, but only 3 inches or so.....
There are years we have to do without, but last winter, and now, we
have real winter again....with snow, and ice......

But not as much as you have!!!!

Thanks Rense! Three inches of snow is just about right, I think. We will be getting RAIN tomorrow.

It's sure going around.
2 days ago we had rain, actually sleet then rain. Then the snow started.
Course in Saskatchewan that's always the way winter starts. We call it thinning of the gene pool.

Beautiful shots, Tamia. Lovely series.
I am just so fascinated with all the snow, (we dont get any). Must be great for the keen photographer, that is when you are not shovelling?

I have never been in snow at all.
