Bird watching
Lens: DA L 55-300 Camera: K-x Photo Location: Florida
Posted By: BlueBubbleBoy, 12-13-2010, 03:43 PM

Finally got a decent bird in flight, but unfortunately can't see his face. But it's an improvement over my previous attempts. Not sure of what kind of bird this is. Anyone more knowledgeable than me want to help with identification?

f/4.5, 1/400, ISO 1250, 108mm

Here's a pose

Why did the egret cross the road?
f/4.5, 1/400, ISO 640, 202mm

I'm thinking this is some sort of crane, but not sure what kind. Any help?
f/5, 1/200, ISO 200, 180mm

Nice shots; I can't get a BIF to save my life. But . . . . . where's the steel rooster?

Thanks Jer! The steel rooster will have to wait a while. It's a few hours south of my house, so I'll have to wait to head that direction again. I'll be sure to snap a few when I do though.

The big read headed bird is in fact a crane, a Sandhill Crane. Fun birds. The bird on the post appears to be an immature gull, but I am not sure which variety.

Thanks! Those sandhill cranes are not shy, and yes they were fun to watch. Looks like your right about the gull too. I looked it up and that seems right. I guess the brown spots threw me off.

Thanks!
