Snowy Egret Shots

Taken in August at Sea World San Diego.

Thought they were cattle egrets. Sharp with good details. With great lighting, the lens certainly performs.

Thanks for the comments, roentarre. I'm sure it's a snowy egret. Cattle Egrets look very similar, however.

Very nice job on a tough subject. Shooting an all white bird and getting the feather detail like that is hard, you got it spot on.

Thnaks for the comment, Scott. I try hard to properly expose the white subject and shoot in raw so I have a bit more latitude to recover the highlights, if necessary.

Great looking shots. Beautiful Snowies...It is very difficult sometimes not to overexpose the whites....a fine job indeed!

Most Cattle Egrets have orange highlights....

Great shots!!!!! I always find it hard to get the exposure right on birds with white. You did very well.

Thanks, Pat. Each time I try I get a little better at it. My first attempt, a little over a year ago, hade way too many blown highlights. Since then I've started using spot metering, -.3 0r -.7 ev and shooting raw.
