Soothing Snow Forms
Posted By: JMR, 12-17-2010, 05:01 AM

A shot from the first heavy snowfall at the Badlands of Caledon, just north of Toronto. Not really a Badlands, just a small denuded area that has the appearance of small hoodoos and hills. In the right light and without footprints, it can look spectacular in the snow.

Edit: added a second image which I call 'Alone.' It is a lone tree amid same hills of snow above. Not much of a tree, but with the radiating subtle lines in the snow, it survives and comes to life. I think is more abstract-like and minimalist than landscape, though I suppose it is both.

It's been a while JMR.
And this one doesn't fail to impress.
Thanks for sharing this nicely textured natural abstract.
Well done.

JMR, this one was worth waiting for. You managed to get a lot of depth into the shot. It is really beautiful. Don't make us wait so long for the next one.

AAAhhhh . . . . it's great to see your "stuff" again, JMR. "Soothing" is, indeed, the word for this one.

Thanks you very much everyone for your comments. I like Winter and snow because, though it is cold and often depressing and hard on people, for a photographer it often allows us to simplify the landscape.

Lovely shots - is there a lot of snow up in Caledon at present?
I'm considering a trip up next week.

Not really. But the Badlands should be full of snow. The forecast is warmer weather so all this may melt. However, in the mornings there may be frost or even a mist, and that is great for photography in the Badlands and in the nearby Forks of the Credit river and Bellfountain areas.

Thanks for the comments.

Thanks very much for your reply. I always seem to forget about the forks, and still haven't gotten to bellfountain. Great suggestions.
