K-5 and a Hummingbird
Lens: A*600 Camera: K-5 Photo Location: Victoria, BC Canada ISO: 400 Shutter Speed: 1/15s Aperture: F22

Today was my first day trying some longer lenses on my new K-5. I spent the majority of the day down at Esquimalt Lagoon, but the best shots came walking up our stairs from the car to the house. We have some resident hummingbirds that are staying the winter....

This one came from my wife's K-r .....

Here is one from the Lagoon.....(K-5 A*1200)

Cheers,
Steve

Slightly brighter would be my preference. Great capture.

Thanks Sparkle. I tend to prefer darker tones but I could probably lighten these up a little.....

I can't believe you have hummingbirds staying around all year. Are you keeping them fed? The Great Blue Heron is my favorite of the bunch but all are very nice.

Since I've never seen a hummingbird in the wild I'm extremely jealous of you guys that have them ... even if only in short periods in the warm weather. I'm amazed that these birds would winter anywhere in Canada !

Heron is the best of these but keep the Hummingbird shots coming !

Thanks slowpez and Frogfish. Apparently some of the hummingbirds go south into California, but there is a variety that lives here during the winter. They will survive through the winter if you keep the feeder out, which many of our neighbors do. It snowed here a number of weeks ago and we could see two of them hiding in a snow covered bush just down the street from the house. This guy in the picture stays in this tree for a good part of the day, chasing away other hummingbirds that get too close to our neighbors feeder. We have a feeder in the back yard, but I think we have a different pair of hummingbirds that have claimed it as it's much harder to get close enough to them for taking pictures.

Looking at the pics today, they all seem a little dark, including the heron. I'll try lightening them up tonight.

Thanks Rense. There are a couple of different varieties hanging around the house this year (3 that I can see).

Looks like I need to check the calibration on my monitor. They look much more yellow here at work.
