Today I rode on a type of Shinkansen I haven't seen before; the JR Akita Komachi. Japan has some of the coolest trains!

Cool wide angle view - that's one crazy looking train. How fast can it go?

According to Wikipedia, the E3 (pictured) can travel at up to 275 kmh. It will be replaced by the E6 which is rated to 320 kmh. The fastest service I've been on was a 700 series Nozomi to Osaka which travels at up to 300 kmh.
