When the Clouds Part
Lens: DA15, F70-210 Camera: K-x Photo Location: Terra Nuva, Richmond, BC
Posted By: jaieger, 12-30-2010, 01:56 PM

Shot these on an impulse photowalk of about 45 minutes or so; took about 110 shots, came back with around 15 keepers That day, the Richmond/Vancouver area finally got a taste of sun again:

Slowly, gradually...

The clouds parted,

revealing the Sun,

the blue sky,

and the fact that any artsiness I have in me should be kept to photography and not sh*tty attempts at poetry, or some strange butchering of it.

I don't know why or how, but much to the envy of my friend, who adores herons (but never gets close to them), I seem to see these everywhere I go and usually can approach within a few meters of them:

Unfortunately marred by hand shake

I think the heron is telling you that it is cold, that is why he is shaking. Enjoy the blue sky, I don't think you get a lot of them at this time of the year. thanks for sharing. Bob

Great shots, although I've got the feeling
that they are a bit underexposed. Could be
fixed easily though....

Should that be Terra Nova and not Terra Nuva?
IMO, the photos would have greater impact by selective cropping, e.g. as in the "Rule of Thirds".

Thank you for the comment! Though really, I think I've got nothing on your part of the world - Australia is absolutely beautiful and I'd love to visit there sometime.

Thanks very much! They were pretty great indeed, if a bit chilly.

Hah, you know it. We have about 4 days worth of Sun right now, and we're soaking it up as much as we can, freezing temperatures or not

Thanks! Probably, especially #3 - OOC, that was actually quite severely underexposed. Taught me a lesson on fill light though and made me realize that the K-x's DR is actually pretty damn good.

Yes, my mistake, it's terra nova. Well as they say, rules are meant to be broken

Some lovely shots (esp #4 - that's an excellent shot) but I do feel most of these are under-exposed and could do with exposing further in PS, LR3 or Aperture 3. There's a lot of detail still hidden in those shadows.
