Turning Over an Old Leaf
Camera: Panasonic LX5 Photo Location: Lake Jackson, TX ISO: 100 Shutter Speed: 1/500s Aperture: F4
Posted By: Sailor, 12-31-2010, 10:00 AM

While playing around with my new Christmas camera the other day, I shot this dying sweet gum leaf on the tree in our front yard. For most of my life, a leaf in this state of degradation would signal late October or early November, but after moving to Texas 15 years ago, this scene is one of Christmas time.

Since our younger daughter was here for the holidays, I didn't have much time to play with my little P&S. She flew back to California yesterday (), so now I'll be able to explore it bit further. I'm hoping I can convince my wife that the camera needs a shake down right when she's taking down decorations!

Nice shot. Looks a bit like our Maple Leaf. Do you chew the sap?

That's quite a capable PAS, Jer. Nice colors and bokeh, and sharp, too.

It does - which is why my wife had it planted shortly after our house was built; it reminded her of the maples we lived among for years (don't see many down here - I don't know why).

I'll have to admit I never sucked sap, but I often thought "sap sucks" when I'd have to clean it off my freshly waxed Mustang! However, I suppose it's better than these ugly critters sweet gum trees deposit:

Thanks, Tamia. I doubt that the camera will see much use for this sort of application, but it's nice to know it can perform this well.

Nice composition, sharp focus and good natural color and light. Like them both.

That camera really does the job, maybe I will trade my K-x for one. Your daughter left for CA, I thought all of the Californians stayed in Texas once they arrived. Bob

Hey Bob - the LX5 is a cool little camera but better hang on to that K-x.

Thanks JIM - I think it'll work out great for those times I want a camera handy but don't want the load of an SLR kit.
