Test run on cute subjects
Lens: FA 50mm f/1.4 Camera: K-x Photo Location: Home
Posted By: BlueBubbleBoy, 01-04-2011, 03:57 PM

Got the FA 50mm f/1.4 for Christmas this year. Had fun (and still having fun) learning how to use the lens. Thought I'd share a couple of my kids since they make my poor technique look a lot better.

Here's my little girl modeling some new clothes hand made by her great grandmother.

And here is my boy unwrapping presents with great urgency. He was all business.

Thanks for looking!

"Thought I'd share a couple of my kids since they make my poor technique look a lot better."

Very true. Too, too many who look through a lens or at a photo never see anything but their or the picture taker's loved ones.

Your kids are sweet but you will not escape my hard line.

# 1 IMO, would be improved to a very nice photo by cropping the books in the foreground out and the top to rid of the white block on the top left.

If the background, as in # 2, is not required, get rid of it by selective focus (aperture control re Depth of Field).

Nice results - well done.
The FA 50 is a fine lens for that.

One of the great benefits of belonging to this forum is learning from others. This post from Sparkle shows how the experienced photographers are willing to take the time and help us improve our photography. I will save this thread and explore each suggestion. I do have to admit though, I love the little guys wonderment in their expressions. Thanks to both for the thread and the post.

Thanks, Sparkle. I'm always up for suggestions and critiques. I've still got much to learn. Here's a re-cropped version of the first photo. I also tried my hand at cloning out the little bit of diaper showing over her pants.

There is nothing more beautiful than the wonderment on children's faces at Christmas time. You captured that feeling.

Cute kids and nice captures! The FA 50mm is a great lens for kid portraits. Is the last one just with window lighting? Very nice, soft, directional light on that one.

Thank you Eric. Yes, the second photo was strictly window light. I'm sure you could tell but the first is a mixture of window light and indoor light.
