In these photos a .177 pellet from an air gun impacts a pencil. The pellet is visible in both photos if you look closely (the pellet has a red tip).
The set-up uses the K7, Sunpack 333d flash off-camera, sound activated trigger with delay circuit, pellet gun, laser sight, and 22 cal. bullet trap. The string that the pencil hung from has been cloned out.

Cool. How many tries did it take you to catch these?

slowpez: After a few test pictures to get the proper exposure between the camera and the flash it took me 3 shots. The first shot hit the pencil but the flash fired early giving me a photo of the pencil before pellet impact. I dialed in slightly more delay (guesstimating) to get the second shot. For the third shot I left the delay setting the same but simply moved the gun 6 inches closer to the target to get more separation of the pencil. I had a handful of pencils and it surprised me that I only had to sacrifice 3.
