Gornergrat, Switzerland

Hi

Here is a series of photos taken last week on the Gornergrat, a summit at 3100m above sea level, close to Zermatt. The summit can be reached by a mountain train, making the things really easy. And up there, it was a bright sunny weather, temperature higher than expected (-1C) and no wind. The sunny terrace was very enjoyable.

2 Through the front window of the train, reaching the summit
K-5, DA*16-50, 18mm, f/7.1, 1/5000s, 125iso

3 The Matterhorn is nearly without clouds, I take the opportunity and start with a shot of it, one never knows how long it lasts.

4 A view on the valley

Great series Dominique and thanks for taking us all up to the Toblerone mountain :-) Pics are all great and I like the mood in #5 with the dark exposure, sunstar and Monte Rosa seeming untouchable.

Did you use a polarizer or any other filters on these shots ?

All the best for 2011,
Georg

Such great images. I don't know the train runs even in winter. My favorites are #7 (the train) and #13 (infrared).

Thank you for all the comments.

I did not use any filter for these photos, except of course the infrared photos which involved an infrared modified K100D Super with a 720nm filter on the sensor.

Love the Matterhorn pictures, the infrared one is particularly cool! Although I've been to the Alps several times, the only Matterhorn I've seen is the one in Disneyland, California
