The Sun Sets on 2010

On New Year's Eve, my girlfriend and I were out running some errands when we came across this view. We quickly dashed off to get our cameras.

The train is the "Beer Run" from the Coors Brewery.

Great capture, very dramatic scene! Was the train moving? If not, I think a subtle HDR would have been great on this picture.

This is a great photo...that sunset almost looks like lava in the mountains.

Perfect - I like the light reflected off the tracks.

Thank you all for the kind comments. Eric, I was in such a hurry to get out the door that I didn't stop for the tripod, so I didn't try any HDRs.

Even if I had, I've never been very good at getting the effect to work for me. In this instance, I just tried to retain as much information as possible realizing that I'd probably blow some of the highlights (as I did) and block up some of the shadows (which weren't as bad as I thought they'd be).

All that being said, my girlfriend was shooting alongside me with her 20D/EF 70-300mm IS combo and tried a couple of handheld HDR bursts. If they turn out, I'll post a link here.
