Two from Mt. Washington
Camera: K-7 Photo Location: NH
Posted By: slowpez, 01-06-2011, 10:20 AM

These were taken from the top of Mt. Washington in New Hampshire where the highest winds ever were recorded. The weather changed every few minutes it seemed. It would go from cloudy to clear so fast. The road to the top was not for the feint of heart either although they did have a cog RR you could take.
Hope you enjoy these. C&C always welcome.

Beautiful lines and perspective. Almost made me sick (Can't stand heights!).

BTW, cog RR is a railway designed to operate on steep slopes. The locomotive has a cogwheel that turns in a cogged center rail providing traction.

Nice shots of Mt. Washington. It looked a lot different when I was there. I don't want to post in someone else's thread, but if anyone wants to see what the Mt. Washington Cog Railway looks like, you can check my blog post here:

i drove instead of the cog. the drive is great fun. first time the winds were so strong, it was hard to push the door open to get out of the car

Looks like you can get quite a view from there and get a little exercise climbing the steps too. Thanks for sharing, would like to visit there next time we go back east. Bob

Count me as another lowlander who felt a twinge of panic looking at that first one. Pretty effective photo, I'd say.

I tried to drive up Mt. Washington I believe it was in 1960 but only got half way up, the car overheated. I tried again 3 years ago in late fall but it was raining and foggy on top so I didn't bother. Thanks for showing us these photos Susan.

Thanks guys. The trip by road is really hairy. Our truck (F250) was the max size allowed on the road. No rails to keep you from falling off either. Cars still overheat on the way to the top. Scary and we really wouldn't do it again. You are given a bumper sticker to put on your vehicle saying it made it to the top. We are thinking of putting it on our 5th wheel. That would be a hoot.

No HDR wee or otherwise. Actually, I don't have the program to do HDR.
Thanks ddurant for commenting.

What a cool place it is. I drove a normal car - not a truck - to the top once, and was still scared. But it's worth it! Thanks for the images.
