Hi

I was quite a few time in the Aletsch region, but in summer. Today I wanted to find out what it is looking like in this season. I took an extended winter walk in the "UNESCO Natural World heritage property of Jungfrau - Aletsch - Bietschhorn" in Riederalp.

8
DA*16-50, 19mm, f/18, 1/100s, 80iso

Nokton 58, f/10, 1/800s, 80iso

11
Nokton 58, f/10, 1/1250s, 80iso

12 On this shot, I tried to find a balance between a blurred background, and enough details to let the viewer recognize the distant Matterhorn
DA*60-250, 250mm, f/9, 1/640s, 80iso

13
DA*60-250, 68mm, f/9, 1/800s, 80iso

14
DA*16-50, 50mm, f3.5, 1/4000s, 80iso

That's all. These and more (including the summer photos) are to be found under Riederalp - a set on Flickr

Absolutely stunning! I just love the high places. I used to visit the N. Cascades ( North American version of the Alps ) quite often. The snow and ice create a different world and I just loved the solitude.
Thanks for sharing!

Generally great snow exposure, not common on here.
The two sun photos, # 1 and # 8 are exceptional. You have the flair!
How did you control and manage the flare?

Thank you Sparkle.

To get such flares, you need to use a wide angle lens in order to keep the sun small, so using the DA*16-50 below 20mm, and then, to get the flares like that, you have to close the aperture to f/16 or even more. Then, for exposure, I use a -0.3 to -0.7 EV compensation.

Thank you Susan. It certainly was a great day up there, and I hope my photos do show at least a bit of it.
