Buying local - show us your shots
Posted By: betsypdx, 10-05-2007, 09:39 PM

A couple recent threads bemoaned the passing of "mom and pop shops", locally owned and operated coffee shops, restaurants, etc. So, I thought I'd go back and find some local shots from last year's photo-a-day pics - not a Starbucks in the bunch!

a delicious burger [Castagna Cafe]

a local latte [Cafe Crema]

at the farmers' market up the street

a homegrown berry [from my sister's garden]

huckleberry pancakes [Genie's]

and coffee from the coffee shop in my building (not so great coffee, but it is locally owned - and hey, I liked the sleeve)

Show us some of your local shots.

I'll pay homage to my favorite 'Mom & Pops' now gone:

Signature Pastries - $3.50 bought you a little piece of heaven.

West Chester Fish Market - $5 lunch special included a sandwich, chips, and soda.

And how about some still going strong?

Kennett Country Butcher - where you can find locally grown beef and veggies:

Bean's Bikes - they still value service over all else...why would I go someplace else?

The Montana Bread Co. - they're actually from Delaware but trek up to my town (~30 minutes away) for the weekly Farmer's Market.

Fairman's - one of the innovators in skateboarding, from the 1970s until now.

Sprazzo - home of hand-made Italian gelato (it's as good as any I got in Italia) and one of the last places to get a decent espresso in town.

Ott's - still a family-owned and run lawn & garden store. They actually have a pseudo-famous 'Mountain of Mums' to which some of the local schools take a field trip.

Best of all, I whole-heartedly support all these little guys - and more.

I really like this shot. Was it with the 43mm Limited? I'm surprised if it was.

Thanks for the shots and your support of the "little guys". Cool skateboard Sean, and I agree - I really like James's coffee shot - intriguing headline too.

Here is a great little breakfast spot in North Conway, NH. The waitress even carries around a little camera in her pocket to take photos of her favorite customers...
