Spiritual Provence
Posted By: channeler, 10-06-2007, 07:37 AM

Some more shots of my recent trip to Provence with a loose spiritual theme (if that isn't a contradiction in terms). The first 4 shots were taken in the vicinity of St. Roselyn's Chapel near Les Arcs. 3 is the Courtyard of the Vineyard building next to the Chapel and 4 is the vineyard itself. The last two are from La Chartreuse de la Verne, an amazing old monastery which is very secluded, deep in the forest. 5 gives an impression of its seclusion and 6 is a typical cell that one of the monks would have lived and worked in (too Spartan for me!). It was difficult to get a decent exposure with the last one. Not sure if -0.7 makes any difference with the flash on but this seemed to be the best of the couple of shots I took.

(from quoted web site) To my knowledge, the only practical optical role for UV filters in digital photography relates to ... "purple fringing" (PF). ... It typically appears as a multipixel band of bright purple surrounding the peripheral edges of dark objects cast against a bright background.
In my experience, UV filters are useless on the K10D for preventing purple fringing.

Paul,

Nicely done again !

I got interested in the Provence because of the food . I guess it is quite a tourist place now due to that book "One Year in the Provence " ? That book cracked me up so bad .

Tran
Hi Tran, Yes I think that book did create a lot of interest. I understand the author moved to another area when things got a little too busy.

Thanks for your comments Gary and Dominique. Thanks for passing on your experience re UV filters Chris. Definitely sounds the money would be better spent on something else.
