In Bad Light, Shoot Tight
Lens: S-M-C Tak 28/3.5, Super-Tak 50/1.4 Camera: K-x Photo Location: Deep Cove, B.C.
Posted By: jaieger, 01-15-2011, 09:51 PM

A few weeks ago, I drove past this place with train tracks and factory buildings and the like; with a moody, cloudy sky, it looked absolutely amazing. Unfortunately, I had no time to stop, and no place to park anyways. Today I went back, only to find out that it was all private property. Not wanting to waste what was quickly becoming my favorite type of weather for photography (overcast skies - not so much my favorite for walking to school), I went instead to a nearby park. Much to my delight, not only was there overcast sky there, but fog. This was my first outting with my taks, I think my only time totally doing manual focus for an entire photowalk.

All shot with the 28/3.5 except for the B&W of the mop-like plant, which was with the 50/1.4 wide open.

And why exactly do you refer him to those sources? Any particular criticism? (The pics are underexposed, but it seems deliberately so.)

I love these kinds of moody (almost spooky shots), and I think these precisely hit the target jaieger described verbally. Well done, in my view.

What a nice series. The first one is the best of the lot and that is saying a lot because I like them all. Well done.

I can tell you from experiance shooting images like this is something of a art forum. I know these areas well and it is always a challenge given the weather conditions we fight 75% of the year. Well done and thank you for sharing. As you take more time your mind will open up to the beauty around you. Cheers JIMBO

Is it just me or do you know just about every photogenic area in western BC Thanks very much for the compliment! And yeah, I know exactly what you mean - when I first started going out on photowalks, I resented the constantly gloomy and cloudy weather our lovely area of the world gets, but now I've come to love it, exactly for shots like these.

Thanks very much! I'm getting better at doing this kind of PP the more I do this type of shot; while I love it I'm worried I'll get shoehorned into doing only this kinda shot. Soon I'll forget how to make pictures look happy!

Some of the best images I have taken were on overcast days. Deepcove can be beautiful in the early morning fog. Go up Indian Arm in a canoe or sailboat. Now that is one beautiful area. Cheers and looking forward to seeing more from you. Cheers JIMBO
