I'd appreciate a little C & C

Especially from you guys with some studio lighting experience. I have found Harry, being a black and white dog, to be very difficult to light and photograph effectively. I've had some luck using a white background, but the shots lack drama. I like a black background for adding drama.

The lighting set up for this shoot was:
1 monolight with a 40degree grid in the left rear, providing the rim lighting.
1 monolight front left with a shoot thru umbrella
1 monolight right front with a regular umbrella

Anybody got any ideas for improvement?
Thanks for any advise.

I really like it, Alan. I'm surprised you ware able to get Harry to pose for you. If anything, I'd like to see a little more light on the eyes.

Thanks Al, Harry is pretty laid back. Learning to light him is a pretty good learning experience.

I see your point about the eyes. Here are 2 more. I changed the grid in the rim light to a 20 degree grid and moved it so less light fell on Harry, and change the shoot thru umbrella for a 30 degree grid with just enough power to light the eyes.

Any better?

I like these last two better - though somehow, I'd like the backdrop to be just a bit darker. In a wierd way (for me at least) the flatness distracts from your dog - it doesn't have the same depth. And, lucky you to have a dog that will actually pose.
