SB Channel at Noon

Panorama of 27 photos of the Santa Barbara Channel. It was a tough hike to the top of the peak, but well worth it for the views of Carpenteria to the south (left) and Santa Barbara to the north (right) as well as four of the Channel Islands (south).

Above is a link to a higher resolution shot (warning: it's 41.4MB)

There a couple errors noticeable in the high resolution photo, including an imperfect horizon stitch and a slight color shift in another stitch.

This was way harder than I expected it. My ambitions for a "2 shot high by 27 shot wide" 5 exposure HDR image panorama were dashed. What you are left with is a single exposure 1 shot by 27 shot image with imperfections.

But I'm still proud of it (I'm glad Sparkle like it too )

Wow - nice image. I've visited Santa Barbara only once (to give a lecture at the university). I wanted to stay, but I can't afford it!

PP stitching, which I've never tried with more that two digital files, really gives you what you'd hope to get from an 8mm, non-fish eye wide angle, except such a lens would give you far more sky and foreground than desired. This is a more satisfactory way to get the view recorded by the swing-lens cameras of the 50's and 60's, none of which had mechanisms with long-term reliability, and done of which - except those few 360 degree specials - could capture a horizontal sweep equivalent to this composite.
