HDR: River in the morning
Camera: K100D Super
Posted By: ismaelg, 01-21-2011, 09:00 AM

Hi,

As I was driving thru the local mountains early in the morning, I was admiring the beauty of the scenery. It was foggy. When I crossed the bridge over this river, I had to stop to take a picture.

This is a 3 image HDR done in Photomatix pro 3.2
The camera was set to bracket 0, +2, -2 at f8 handheld.
K100D Super
DA 18-55 AL

Darn it! I can't find a justification to upgrade this old clunker K100D Super! HA!

Lovely HDR. Not overdone at all. I just love it.

I know this isn't the critique forum but after the posts above I think it's worthwhile to say I've got a different opinion of the image. I think the composition is quite messy - half a palm, no central interest, nice colour - but I can't see much more to it. I don't think it justifies a 5-star rating when it could have been a lot better. Well that's my two cents.

I totally agree. However, I think there are basic problems with the photo. But then I disagree with most of the comments here and this isn't the critique forum either.

I tend to agree. HDRs are often pretty darned interesting when they're not overblown (which this one isn't). But then there's still the difference between the intrinsic eye-catchingness of HDR and the criteria that go into just plain good photographs, criteria that we often lump together under the catch-term "composition." This picture, then, does a wonderful job on the HDR end. (And I should point out that I need to work on this end, too!) But as CWyatt points out (I think), it still needs good composition.
