Lens: DA 55-300 Camera: K20D Photo Location: Texas Sea Center ISO: 400 Shutter Speed: 1/750s Aperture: F9.5

The other day, I experimented with my DA 55-300 as a close up lens - here's a shot of a statue at the Texas Sea Center. This one is hand-held, not the best approach, but I'm too lazy to carry a tripod.

This is very effective with the worn stone, shadow and light. I can see where a tripod might have helped on the cheek area, but everywhere else seems crisp enough for this image. Love the scratches and wear marks, just adds so much character. Your vision of the statue is terrific too. Really really cool!

Good use of B&W, which is still a powerful way to portray some subjects.

I like it, Jer. The conversion is well done and emphasizes the form and texture well. I continue to be impressed with the photos I see form folks using the 50-300mm.

Jer-You are certainly getting more creative. After looking at that shot of the statue I think that I'm going to get myself "stoned"-----Capn Zap

Hey, Susan. Thanks and, yeah, this lens does a very good job for the buck, and it's not the size of a rocket launcher - something supremely important to me.

Bob, thanks for the nice words. The lens is a jewel for what it costs and it's (relatively) diminutive size.

You couldn't really ask for better, the flaws in the stone add value to the character of the image and the tonal qualities are great. Well done in all aspects.
