Mother of the Sea...[4 IMG]
Posted By: Duplo, 10-08-2007, 07:12 PM

Is the name of a recently reveal sculpture located in the water just outside the colonial harbour in Nuuk.

It has been set in such a way that it will be hidden at high tides and only wisible at low tides.

I got pretty wet shooting this as the tides rose on the cliffs i was standing on.

anyway here goes:

Ohh captured this one too of a very greenlandic house, used in a previous photo of mine:

And why not a few shots of the 3 girls that were kind enough to leave the warm living room and walk with me

Thanks for looking, comments and critics are as always most welcome

Nice series here.

So what's the weather range normally up there in Greenland.
Sorry if i sound like an idiot ... i really haven't read up on your country or know too much about it.

Looks quite cold there though.

Nice series - colors are cirsp and clear. Neat story on the Statue as well. I love the Blue house. You should be able to spot that miles offshore !

Well weather range really depends on where in greenland you are.
Where I live we have moderate warm weather from a summer around 15C to winters with temperature well below -20C
My personal record that way was -46C and storm, during a layover in Kangerlussuaq, now that was chilly.
These day we have temperatures around 0C.

Yep it actually can be seen from quite far away.

Wow ... that's cold indeed.

We are used to Winter's around 10-15 deg C (down to -5deg C before sunrise) ... and all that way up to 46-ish deg C in the middle of Summer.

I might be heading to Dubai with my wife for her work ... and it gets well over 50 deg C in Summer there ... crazy.

very nice

that's a really cool idea for a sculpture! Do you remember the shutter speed for the first two shots? Great colors! For criticism.....that last picture needs a ton of work.....

Thank you.

I think it is very original idea for a sculpture indeed.

Well exif data should be there, but 1/3 and 1/15 respectively. it was a rather windy day btw.

the last two shots are just quick snaps, nothing done to them really... but the flash and their movement made for some odd black halo like effect.
But to make the best of the last shot a lot of work would be needed indeed, same goes for the third I think

interesting. Maybe the flash was on slow sync mode that would explain the ghosted leg.

These images reveal Greenland to be a country of stark beauty. Unfortunately it's not just "over the road" from Australia so I doubt I'll ever get there. I will have to rely on Thomas' skill with the camera.

I'd say the 1/3 sec exposure time in pic 1 is perfect for the subject matter, the sea has just the right balance of sharpness and blur for the revealing sculpture.

Strange shadows around the people in the fourth photo; what causes that?

That first shot is amazing, such a beautiful place Duplo! I'm jealous and hopefully one day I'll be able to see those kind of sights.

I will do my best to keep bringing you photos from up here.

It really did come out pretty well that one I think.

I am not sure what went wrong in the fourth photo. My guess is something flash related... luckily it is just a snapshot and not something important.

Greenland holds a lot of beauty I think, especially nature.
I hope you will see it first hand some day.
