Some Mighty Fine Jazz
Camera: Panasonic LX5 Photo Location: Clarion Auditorium ISO: 400
Posted By: Sailor, 01-25-2011, 04:30 PM

Saturday night, we went to a terrific concert with Yvonne Washington, a regionally popluar jazz/R&B singer from Houston, and the Brazosport Jazz Band, a group of area muscians - primarily high school and college faculty. This was a perfect opportunity to try out my new LX5 for the kind of purpose for which it was intended: an ancillary role as an unobstrusive (to me and others) means of grabbing an occasional shot while focusing on the music. These shots were taken from my seat (with my granddaughter on my lap); while the little camera can't touch the output of a roving photographer with a DSLR and a bag of lenses, it does deliver what I'd hoped - a decent record of the event.

My son-in-law is in the trumpet section, extreme right.

Jer, that camera is really a performer, great colors with no noise. The nice thing, is you can just put it in your pocket without lugging the equipment around. Nice to be with family attending concerts and outings, thanks for sharing. Bob

Thanks, JIM, Bob and Henrich, for indulging a guy experimenting with a new camera. Just to be clear - the pics were shot in RAW, manipulated and converted with the SilkyPix software that came with the camera, touched up with an old version of Noise Ninja, and - finally - cropped (around 50%), resized and sharpened in PSP X.

Pretty much the same routine I use with my K20D output, although I've yet to learn the sweetspots for the new camera.

Jer
