Oatman "Where the Burros Roam" Arizona
Camera: K-x Photo Location: Oatman, AZ
Posted By: Bob Harris, 02-02-2011, 08:50 PM

Oatman was founded in 1900, a gold strike soon after caused the population to expand to 3500 and by 1930's the boom was over, all mines closed and the burros that were used in the mines for hauling rock and ore were released into the hills. Interest in the original Hwy 66 help revive the then ghost town and of course the burros that stayed in the area also helped tourism. The town now booms again with tourists walking the streets that contains many of the original buildings, including the original hotel where Clark Gable and Carol Lombard may have spent their honeymoon. And those burros are pushy, looking for handouts.

Here's a fun one...

thanks for the add on, you are right, they just walk right in. We were lucky to see the babies outside of the town and we stopped and took a few photos.
