I like it very much. Too often I find that HDR overwhelms the original picture...to me, this looks just right.

It still retains that 'natural' look...but also has a 3D appearance about it.

Yep, i like the picture and mess with HDR myself. Very nice scene!

Two comments:
A. There are about 3 dust spots in the clouds that mar the picture.

B. The sky and green area are too oversaturated. These days i try to tone down the hdr effect so that viewers can't quite tell for sure.

A question:
One of the old bugaboos with hdr was how to deal with moving objects and the ghosting that causes. So was this a multi-image hdr blend or was it a single image treated with hdr software?

If multi=image, how did you prevent the ghosting on the horse. I've tried Photomatix Ver4 and had some good results with avoiding ghosting because of their new semi-manual tool for ghosting. is that what you used or something else on the horse?

best wishes,

I agree with that except that I also agree that,

(but the sky more so than the green areas).

Otherwise, very nice!

I like it. Did you do this using multiple exposures?

Looks great and I agree that the green and blue could be toned down just a little. What did you use to make this photo? I have been playing around with HDR on CS5 and it has been an utter fail every time...Bought a book and going to try a course on HDR through Lyda.com, then try again...

Love it, The HDR seems to work really well and you have done a good job of it.

Good picture, sad looking horse though. Looks like it missed a meal or two, or is an old horse.

Absolutely--that horse has character! It really gives the photo an emotional depth.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. Glad you liked it.

As to some of the questions:
This was a single image taken. I then used Adobe lightroom to create three additional exposures, +1,+2,-1. I then used Photomatix to combine the four exposures.

I didn't play with much of the editing (the saturation, etc), wanted to get some opinions before I screwed with it too much. (I lied, this was actually my second attempt at this picture, my first ended with the HDR being super saturated and pronounced and just cartoon looking so I scrapped it and started again). And thanks for pointing out the dust spots, I spent so much time looking at the horse, I didn't even look up at the sky, I'll work on fixing those next.

As to the horse itself, yeah, he's a little skinny. Its a really hard life out in Mongolia, harsh winters, and constant movement when there's not too much snow. Actually got to meet the "cowboy" whose herd this horse belonged to as he was getting them moving that morning.

The comments are much appreciated,

Oren
