First, the white balance. You're after some moody light-that morning golden glow. You really need a good midday WB from the day before or a filter, probably a grad in orange or tobacco: Cokin. Considering the two shadow areas, maybe two filters or a recomposition. A 'ND' might also help/work.
Timing will be critical to get enough light for a small aperture--actually you seem to have gotten that just about right.
Finally, back off the sharpening. You cannot make-up for shortcomings with extra sharpening--you just get halos. Work your sharpening with the image enlaged as much as 200 or 300%. Be sure to check both near and far objects. And you might need some noise abatement-be delicate.

I tried a warming filter and backed off the sharpening by over 50%. Is this closer to what you think it should be?
